imagesA new article published by U.S. News and World Report, “U.S. Falls Short in Studying Abroad” says that the “annual growth of U.S. students going overseas is slower than the pace of many other countries.”

From the article:

“The U.S. is sending and receiving more students abroad than ever before, but access still remains a problem as fewer than 1 in 10 American students head overseas at some point in their academic careers.

According to new data released by the Institute of International Education in its annual report on student exchange, the number of foreign students coming to the U.S. increased by 8 percent in the 2013-14 school year compared with 2012-13, to a record high of 886,052 – also a 72 percent increase since 2000.

Meanwhile, the number of American students studying abroad increased by 2 percent between the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years to 289,408. The number of American students going to other countries has nearly doubled since 2000.”
